How each tool scores your hook

VidCognition

VidCognition sends your actual video to a vision language model prompted to behave like a senior paid-social strategist reviewing a cut before it goes live. It watches the ad, then writes up what happens in each segment: what the first two seconds are asking a scrolling viewer to do, where the bridge loses them, whether the offer ever lands. You get Hook, Bridge and Offer scored separately, one to five specific fixes, and rewritten hook lines.

Paid plans also render a simulated brain-response curve from Meta's TRIBE v2 research model as a secondary panel. It is labelled directional in the product and it is not what the score is built from. The score comes from the critique.

TryGoViral

TryGoViral analyzes your hook against historical video performance data and engagement patterns, returning a 0–100 hook score and an engagement heatmap based on where similar content performed well or poorly. Pattern matching against a large dataset is a legitimate approach and it is fast. The tradeoff is that it tells you how your hook compares to a distribution rather than what specifically to change in your cut.

What neither tool can do

Most comparison pages skip this part. These limits apply to VidCognition as much as to anything else in the category, and knowing them is what stops you making an expensive decision on a number.

Predict what your ad will earn

No pre-launch tool can tell you views, ROAS or revenue. Those depend on audience, bid, budget, offer and timing, none of which are visible in the video file. VidCognition states this on its own guide pages.

Reliably rank two near-identical variants

Measured against 218 videos with real retention labels, VidCognition's hook score sits at Spearman 0.43. That separates weak hooks from strong ones. It does not support a claim that a 72 beats a 68 — treat scores within a few points as tied and decide on the written critique instead.

Replace a real test

The only thing that tells you how an ad performs is running it. Pre-launch review is for catching the obvious failures cheaply before you pay for the impressions, not for skipping the test.

Who should use each tool

Use TryGoViral if:

  • You want a quick pattern-matching hook score with no setup
  • You're looking for a basic engagement heatmap
  • You're benchmarking against a large historical dataset rather than reviewing one cut

  • You want to know which second of your ad is losing people, not just a number
  • You want rewritten hook lines you can shoot tomorrow
  • You're reviewing paid-social creative before it goes live

  • You'd rather use a tool that publishes the measured limits of its own score
  • You want a free tier that doesn't require a credit card
